Switzerland: where wanderlust comes to life

You want to plan your trip to Switzerland, but where do you even start? Let me give you some ideas of the best places we went to in this beautiful country!

Grindelwald, Switzerland

Where to Begin?

We flew into Zurich, Switzerland and I read in a lot of blogs that people either start in Zurich or Geneva. We started in Zurich because the things we wanted to do were located more on that side of the country. I had made a list of the places we wanted to go and then I looked at TripAdvisor to see if they had tours to those places so we wouldn’t have to rent a car, and they did! I’ll go through the different day tours we did to give you some ideas of fun things you can do as well!

Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich

Zurich is a very walkable city and well as super easy to get around with the inner city train system (I will touch more about the train system in another post). We were able to catch the train a block from our hotel and went to the Zurich Main-station which is the main train hub. We were able to find where our tour bus meet up spot was right outside the train station and walked around downtown. There were lots of shops and restaurants. While we were there they were also having a huge block party with different food vendors and DJ’s playing different types of music. Make sure to make a stop at the Lindt Home of Chocolate Museum! We bought our tickets online in advanced and it was one of the highlights for our time in Switzerland! You get to learn about the history of Chocolate, how they make Chocolate, watch them make Lindt Chocolates and of course sample so many different flavors of Chocolate! They have a huge gift shop and don’t miss out on their coffee shop/restaurant! Make sure you get a hot chocolate and I would recommend getting one of their hot sandwiches!

Interlaken, Switzerland

Interlaken

We were only at Interlaken for a quick stop before our tour kept moving but it was absolutely stunning. We took a short walk down by the river and did some shopping. I wish we had more time at this location and it’s on my bucket list to go back to! There were lots of people paragliding and it looked so much fun!

Grindelwald, Switzerland

Grindelwald

This mountain town in the Bernese Alps is unreal. I am from the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, USA and I was blown away at how magnificent this picturesque mountain town is. We didn’t know what we wanted to do until we got there and our tour guide helped give us some ideas so we decided to have lunch first (which was super good and expensive) and then we rode Trottibikes down the mountain which was such an adrenaline rush! Look for my more in depth post about Grindelwald!

Lucerne, Switzerland

Lucerne

Lucerne was so beautiful. Chapel Bridge and Water Tower is gorgeous and amazing to grasp the history and importance of this landmark. It is considered Europe’s oldest covered bridge, built in the 14th century. The images on the inside of the bridge that depicts Swiss history and Lucerne’s history are from the 17th century. Lucerne also had a beautiful Catholic Church, Jesuit Church built in 1666.

Bern, Switzerland

Bern

We didn’t get to spend much time in Bern but it was gorgeous. Bern in the capital of Switzerland and is the famous city where people float down the river. We did get to see people doing it and it looked so fun! We were with a tour group here so we just walked around the city, heard some the history, had lunch and saw the bears! It was kind of hard to find a place to eat lunch but that might have just been us being picky on what we wanted to eat. Make sure to see the bears at the Bärengraben (Bear Pit) right before the bridge going into the city. They only come out at certain times though so make sure you know what time they will be out. The bear is the symbol of the city and surrounding Canton.
