“High above the clouds in Grindelwald.”
Grindelwald is like stepping into a picturesque post card! The views will literally take your breath away! When we go back to Switzerland, this is definitely a place I want to spend more time. Keep in mind that Grindelwald is a touristy mountain town so everything is going to be very expensive but it’s so worth it!

Transportation
We took a day trip to Grindelwald from Zurich on a tour bus. During this trip we also stopped at Interlaken for a bit but we spent most of our day at Grindelwald. It was nice taking the bus because we did not have to rent a car or worry about parking but your time is limited to what the tour bus schedule is. Next time we go to Grindelwald we will plan on just taking the train! The train stations have easy access to the town and you can walk the main streets. When looking at trains from Zurich to Grindelwald it’s about a 2.5 hour train ride. The train tickets can be expensive but if you have the Swiss Travel Pass (highly recommend) then it would be included in that pass and you wouldn’t have to worry about buying individual tickets.

Things To Do
We didn’t really know what we wanted to do while we were in Grindelwald until we heard about Trottibikes and we decided we had to do it! We were able to walk from the train/bus station through the town until we got to the gondola. At the gondola we were able to buy our tickets (up the gondola and for Trottibikes). The gondola ride up had absolutely gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains. We got off at the first stop of the gondola and waited in line to sign the wavier to ride the Trottibikes. While waiting in line you want to grab a helmet that people leave in the baskets because you will not be able to ride if you do not show them you have a helmet. People were definitely fighting over the helmets and when they were all gone, people had to wait for more to be returned from the people doing the carts that were future up the mountain side. Best bet is as soon as you see a helmet being returned grab it! Once you sign the waiver they will give you your Trottibike and then you can head down the mountain. And boy oh boy it’s steep!!! At first it was so scary because you don’t get small hill to try out your balance or breaks. You are immediately thrown down a very steep mountain side and have to figure it out as you go along. I really wanted to take a video while going down but there was no way I would have been able to hold my phone and the handlebars as well. If you have a Go-Pro I would recommend bringing it on this activity! On the way down we were able to stop and see some Swiss cows who had on the traditional Swiss bells. We were able to take a break and soak in the views and sounds of Switzerland. As we continued down the mountain side on the Trottibikes, you end up riding your bike through the town and back to the base of where the gondola starts. This is where you return your Trottibikes and they also have restrooms on the side of the building. If you are an adrenaline junky, like me, this is the perfect activity to do and I would highly recommend it!!

Food
We had lunch while we were in Grindelwald and it was super yummy! We ate at the Challi Bar which is inside the Hotel Kreuz and Post and it’s right next to the train station. It was hot outside so we wanted to sit inside but they do have a small patio with spectacular views on the mountains! Both of our food was very delicious but very expensive. Just keep in mind that wherever you eat you are going to be paying way more than you would back in the city. We also got gelato at a little stand because when in Europe you must eat gelato every chance you get!

Grindelwald is one of the top places I want to visit again in Switzerland and I hope you get to experience it as well!
